Each fall, College Admission officers pay a visit to Visitation. This year, over 130 stopped by Fennessy Hall,
and several of them hailed from in and around the Boston area. Here
is a quick run-down:
Babson College is located in
Wellesley, MA, approximately 14 miles west of Boston. It is a business school with what Babson says is a focus on “Entrepreneurial
Thought and Action” and approximately 2,000 undergraduate students. Students gain real-world experience through
internships and the Babson academic program.
A DIII school, Babson offers 22 varsity sports and 18 club sports—everything
from alpine skiing to club level yoga.
Bentley College is a
business school but also offering secondary majors and minors in liberal
studies. With over 4,000 undergraduates, students begin with core classes
within the business curriculum and many pursue degrees in accounting,
management, and marketing. All students
are required to take a lab science and calculus. There is lots of school spirit—students organize
viewing parties and tailgates for various games. They have a growing Greek life on campus and
they offer a shuttle that takes students all over Boston. With over 250,000 college students in Boston,
there are plenty of options on weekends.
Emmanuel College, a small,
private, co-ed, Catholic liberal arts college in Boston, not far from Fenway
Park and Northeastern University. With
roughly 1860 undergraduates, it is a lively and close-knit community with many
students from New England. Most students
are drawn to majors in the sciences, and many graduates head off to medical school
and to pursue careers in nursing or advanced degree programs in Psychology. With a hospital adjacent to campus and the
Merck Pharmaceuticals Research Laboratory situated on Emmanuel's campus,
students have plenty of opportunities for research and internships. They also have service living and learning communities
and a campus retreat center.
Stonehill College’s
undergraduate enrollment is approximately 2400 strong. Stonehill is located 22 miles south of Boston
in Easton, MA. They boast a modern,
state-of-the-art athletic complex and a strong internship program. Popular majors at Stonehill include business,
majors in the sciences, and their 3-2 engineering program. A Catholic college, Stonehill was founded in
1948 by the Congregation of the Holy Cross.
They have a wide range of campus groups including intramural sports
teams, clubs, and volunteer organizations.
